Vietnam Veterans Invited to Pinning Ceremony on March 28 to Commemorate National Vietnam War Veterans Day
SELINSGROVE – In an effort to honor area Vietnam War-era veterans, Reps. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) and Fred Keller (R-Snyder/Union), along with the office of U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, are hosting a ceremony to commemorate National Vietnam Veterans Day. Veterans from the Greater Susquehanna Valley area are invited to attend and be honored at this event.

This ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at the Selinsgrove VFW Post 6631, located at 940 Route 522, in Selinsgrove. Culver, Keller and Col. Robert DeSousa, Sen. Toomey’s state director, will offer remarks and present commemorative pins and certificates to eligible Vietnam War-era veterans during the event.

“It is very important that our veterans who served in Vietnam be recognized for their patriotism, sacrifice and service to our nation,” Culver and Keller agreed. “The Vietnam War ended in 1975, and when our veterans returned home, they were not received with open arms. Ceremonies like this one are our way of showing our appreciation and respect for what they did for our nation.”

Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of station location, will be eligible to receive a lapel pin at this ceremony. Family members are invited to attend the ceremony with veterans.

“Our Commonwealth’s Vietnam veterans bravely served this country and it’s an honor for my office to recognize them for their service,” said Toomey. “For over half a century, many of these veterans have been unsung heroes. I encourage all Vietnam War veterans in the Greater Susquehanna Valley and in the surrounding areas to participate in this recognition event.”

Toomey co-sponsored legislation to permanently designate March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of veterans who served during the Vietnam War. The bill has been signed into law by President Donald Trump.

Advanced RSVP is required before Friday, March 23, by calling 570-966-0052.
