Charter School Reform, School Choice to be Focus of House Hearing, Culver Says
6/21/2011

Legislation that will reform Pennsylvania’s charter schools and allow for school choice will be the focus of a public hearing of the House Education Committee on Wednesday, June 22, according to Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder).

“Within the past couple of weeks, the issue of school choice has reached a fever pitch with several new proposals being introduced,” Culver said. “I firmly believe that providing a quality education to our students is among our foremost priorities, but I want to make sure that people are aware of this hearing and to learn more about the various proposals being discussed in the General Assembly.”

The hearing will be at 9 a.m. in G-50 Irvis Office Building and will be streamed live at PAHouseGOP.com and LyndaCulver.com. An archive of the hearing will be available on the main caucus website late Wednesday or Thursday.

“I encourage people to watch the hearing and learn more about this legislation and the various reforms and proposals being drafted,” said Culver. “I also urge educators, parents, students, and administrators, as well as the community at large, to contact me with their thoughts, concerns and suggestions.”
