Culver to Bring Expertise to House Committees

Focusing on her experience in state government and working with constituent issues, Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) has been assigned to four standing committees within the House of Representatives.

Culver was appointed by Speaker of the House Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Armstrong/Indiana) to the following committees: Aging and Older Adult Services, Labor and Industry, Commerce and State Government.

“These committees will be a natural fit for my interests and abilities,” Culver said. “For more than 20 years, I worked with all different departments and agencies within state government, and already I have an extensive knowledge of the ins and outs of the way state government operates.”

Culver also is excited about her post with the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee. “With Pennsylvania serving the second highest population of senior citizens in the country, this role will allow me to have a greater voice in the issues that impact so many of our local residents,” she said. “From nursing home and assisted living facility inspections to programs and services funded by the state Lottery and elder abuse and older adult protection services, this committee is a busy one.”

Both the Commerce and Labor and Industry committees will give Culver a chance to work toward greater economic development opportunities in Pennsylvania, especially in the Upper Susquehanna Valley.

“Our area has been hit hard by the economic downturns of the last few years, and these committee assignments will be focused on the improvement of the state’s job market and encouraging companies to expand or relocate here,” she said. “Many of the issues we’ll be dealing with will help make Pennsylvania more competitive. I am excited about working on these issues.”
