News You Can Use

Wishing you a Happy Easter! Enjoy the nice spring weather and time with family and friends this weekend. As a reminder, my district offices will be closed on Friday, April 14, in observance of Good Friday. Due to the Milton Borough Building being closed on Monday, April 17, our Milton office will be closed, but our Sunbury office will remain open during regular hours.

2017 Adam T. Bower Inflatable Dam Operational Schedule

Earlier this week, I received the tentative 2017 operational schedule for the Adam T. Bower Dam in Sunbury. The following dates are estimates, based on cooperation from the Susquehanna River. The project to replace bags 1 and 7 on the dam will take place late this summer into early fall, with the entire project hopefully being finished by Oct. 1. A bag test and inspection is scheduled for the fall.

• April 25-26: Spring dam inspection is scheduled. This may result in slightly higher water upstream, but for no more than a day or two.
• May 2: Inflation is scheduled to begin, and this process generally takes 10-14 days to complete.
• May 15: Marina docks are scheduled to be installed so they can be in place by Memorial Day weekend.
• August 14: Docks are expected to begin being removed.
• August 19: Dam deflation will begin following the Sunbury River Festival..

On Monday night, I hosted a public meeting about the Shikellamy State Park Complex, where Park Manager John Clifford discussed details about the schedule, as well as information about other projects in the park. The Daily Item attended the meeting and published a story earlier this week – click here to read the story.

CSVT Tour with Area Municipal Leaders

Our office coordinated a tour of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway (CSVT) with area municipal leaders from throughout the 108th District on Tuesday. Thank you to Dave Wise, PennDOT project manager for the northern section, who led the tour to the different sections of the project to see the progress that has been made.

Protecting PA’s Children

This month, our nation recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month as a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. This month, communities are encouraged to share child abuse and neglect prevention awareness strategies and activities and promote prevention across our nation.
