ELYSBURG – In an effort to help educate parents and members of the community about the latest drug concerns and prevention methods, area Reps. Kurt A. Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) and Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) will host a second Drug and Alcohol Community and Parent Awareness Program on Wednesday, May 17
The program will take place at the Line Mountain High School
, located at 187 Line Mountain Road, in Herndon
. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 6 p.m
Drug and Alcohol Service Providers Organization of PA President Deb Beck, Project Bald Eagle Executive Director Steve Murphy Shope and Northumberland County Drug Court graduate Chad Wolfe will all speak at this event. A question-and-answer panel will feature Masser, Culver, Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley, Northumberland County Commissioner Samuel Schiccatano and Northumberland County Drug and Alcohol Director Glenda Bonetti.
“Drug and alcohol abuse is a major problem that is unfortunately affecting individuals of many ages and backgrounds in our area,” Masser said. “Educating the community about the latest trends, risks and methods is a great first step in accomplishing a wide spread awareness of the negative impacts drug and alcohol abuse can have on an individual.”
“The sad reality is that current drug crisis stemming from opioid and heroin abuse continues to plague communities in our area, our state and our nation,” Culver said. “Awareness is one of the first steps we can take to recognizing the issues, and I encourage parents, students, caretakers, teachers and all members of the community to attend this program.”
